Ideal Depth for Jewfish

Hi everyone,

I was wondering, what is the ideal depth to fish for jews in? Also, does there need to be bait present where you're fishing?

Theyll be at different depths for different reasons. They may be in the shallows because a school of mullet is there or in deeper water feeding on a school of yakkas on a reef. Sometimes theyll just be moving up or down the river. The key is to work out where theyll be when!

My last trip up the north coast was very good for Jews, we caught them from the shore then in 50m in our boat as well as in 100m over a wreck. It fished this way everyday we were there. We had to keep moving away from jewfish as they don't release from deep water, trouble was most rough ground held them. In the end all we could do was tow surface lures, wish we had fish like that down here on the south coast.
