ryan169
Hi all Just caught my 1st flathead on soft plastics yesterday arvo. I was using a squidgies wriggler down at little manly. Just wondering if any of you have any tips for plastics in winter for a beginner, like spots or different plastics to try? big Neil
Well done Fishyboi on your 1st soft plastics catch. SPs work remarkably well so not much point having every type ever made. It's more about being in a likely place, with the right tide and putting the time in really. Bream and trevally like a bit of structure whereas Flatties will lay in wait just off a drop off from the shallows. Either target species, you need to put the time in and you'll get among them. Good luck.
tackleberry
uh oh you're in trouble now won't be long now you will have 6 different box's of plastics and also other box's for jug heads it's a slippery slope haha
Green Hornet
Best bit of advice for plastics in winter when the fish are lethargic is fish them slow. Slow lifts and long pauses with plenty of scent on your lure.
Cargo05
Flatties love SP, and as Neil said, it doesn’t seem to matter which ones you use, if you are in the right place, at the right time, they usually can’t resist. Tackleberry hit the nail on the head too. The more you fish with them, the more SP and jigheads seem to magically appear in your tackle box/s. It is a very addictive way to fish. dirvin21
fish later in the day during winter so the water has a chance to warm up, don't be afraid to go a decent sized plastic when chasing flatties especially around the drop-offs on the run out tide
