Maybe pink/red tones being the first to "washout " gives a darker , cleaner silhouette. Possibly red reef fish are so coloured to blend in to the reef. I remember reading an article on jig colours and silhouettes a couple of years back , really interesting. Wish I could remember where I read it. I know the new ultraviolet jigs I've used haven't seen an increase in hookups. I have to remind myself occasionally that fishing tackle is designed primarily to catch fishermen rather than fish. You would think that the action is more important than the colour.
