Pittwater, Broken Bay, Not Good

It is my sad duty to report another unsuccesful mission on Pittwater and Broken bay :1badmood:

Morning did not start off well, when i cracked the windscreen on the Pogoboat.

Then discovered the Pogoboat was sulking and had a flat battery, probably due to the bait pump frying again :1badmood:

Finally managed a to get a start by fitting the deepcycle battery which meant that no bow mount was available

Got out round to the usual spot for squid, no go :1badmood:

tried the basin and palm beach as well no squid.

Plan 1 of downrigging squid goes out the window,

Flicked some Sps around the flats at the back of Elvina and Lovett for 1 small Flathead (undersize)

Picked up the neighbour at taylors pt, tried a drift along the back off Palm beach ! small trevor

Tried a drift through from Juno to Patonga, zip

Wind was getting to be difficult and the skies looked threatening to the north so back to Pittwater

Anchored up and berleyed near the Tomahawk couple of little cockney bream

All in all not a great fishing day, saw no surface action at all

Nice to be on the water but I'm starting to need to score a few decent fish before I have a confidence failure

these days make us appreciate the good ones!!!!

If its any consolation, I had a trip last summer that involved a flat battery, broken trailer winch, lost anchor and a mate falling overboard all in one day (and not fish caught) :05:

The next trip was a ripper..

so if my maths is right, then your next trip should be gold!!

Welcome to my life Pogo. Now you know how I have felt over the last few months! :05:

Too bad about the dramas on the boat. What bait pump are you using? I've only had my boat about 20 months and I'm already on pump 4!!!! :mad3:

Yep this is pump two in about 6 months

Its a Rule 500gph. The biggest drama is that it is one of the thru hull fittings

I suspect the way I have it plumbed is part of the problem, I think its getting back pressure from the scoop pick up, which is either stalling or overloading the motor. this one has a crack in the motor case and the last one had a total melt down.

I started of with an Attwood that was originally fitted to my boat. Also the thru-hull like yours. It lasted about 8 months. I have a pick up of sorts. Its basically just a nylon elbow screwed onto the input pipe and cut at 34 degrees to make a streamline scoop that wouldn't throw a huge rooster tail.

I replaced it with a Rule, thinking that it would be better.... :mad3: It lasted about 5 months, and was repaired under warranty. Got it back....fitted it....used it for a total of about 6 outings, and it is dead again! :mad3:

A few words were exchangfed with the place of purchase, and my feelings were made known in no un-certain terms! :ranting2: They have swapped it for a brand new one. I have re-fitted it, but not yet used it.

If this doesn't work out, I'm considering using a Shurflow raw water pump. They have the magnetic diagphram rather than an impellor setup. In theory that should be better. The beauty of the Shurflow is that it will double as a deck wash as well!

I went out this morning at sun up and trolled around the joey, hooked 4 salmon and 3 tailor, manged to jump off all the salmon and 1 of the tailor - caught on Cd's and blue/pink squid. Had a strike by something that pulled pretty good with stong tail beats but dropped it as well. I just didnt seem to stay connected to anything this morning

There was a small school of salmon in the wash off the rocks slurping and rolling on the surface but the swell was a bit big to get in that close trolling

Trolled out a bit wider a little later to see if there was anything else, lots of mutton birds doing laps and a few terns doing nothing.

Had a very quick look around pittwater and home by 10

Yeh, I am looking for my receipt tomorrow to go back and make a warrant claim.

Ive got the pump out at the moment to show them, but it wont be going back for repair. I'll huff and I'll puff and blow the house down, I want a new one

You might have seen me I was close in on the NW side of the joey upstream from the bommie trying to catch squid from about 730 for over an hour, heaps of small baitfish in close to the rocks
