Wellzy94
I'm curious as to whether there are any true floating lines left on the market. I know previously Siglon F was a popular choice but as far as my research has shown, it's not manufactured or sold anymore. I currently use Sunline Fine Float on my blackfish rig, but I've noticed that it tends to start sinking after a couple hours use. Considering getting beeswax or vaseline to counter the sinking, but if there are any proven and true floating lines, I'd rather get some of that than to play around with waxes or vaseline. What floating line do you use, and how do you rate it? Cheers, Wellzy
Wellzy94
I might add as well that Wax Dango floating line is apparently no longer being imported into Australia.
Oldfella
Hi Wellsy; Take yourself into a tackle shop that has a good range of fly fishing gear. There are number of products they will have to treat leaders for dry fly fishing. When I lived in Sydney and fished off the rocks for blackfish I used "Floatol" for many years. It used to be in a small tin a bit bigger than a fifty cent piece. Put a bit on thumb and forefinger, run out your main line and run it between the fingers. Works a treat and lasts a couple of outings too. They will have something that will work for sure. Cheers. Oldfella.

Thanks for the tips mate, but I'm looking for a floating line that will last a bit longer before treating it, as opposed to treatments to aid flotation. Linesystem (Wax Dango etc.) have local agent here in Noosaville,QLD. Perhaps you can get a list of Wax Dango stockists from there and check if anything left? luderick -angler
Wax damgo is discontinued by the manufacturer I would recommend the red Sunline float line bit pricey but apparently very good
Ozzybass
I tried Sunline Fine Float (bright yellow colour) a few years back but abandoned it after a few goes as I found it didn't float very well. I haven't tried any floating mono since, but have been told the Dango Wax is good. A mate uses an orange Sunline floating line and he likes it. If floating lines are not available easily, I would try the ISO fishing websites. I use braid as my main line and braid floats pretty well plus I apply Mucilin to it which is available in most tackle stores that stock fly fishing gear. All I could find was Siglon F (pink) and the Floating Special Line (orange). Are either of those the one you're talking about? Ozzybass I use the yellow Sunline as well, and I'm having issues with it floating for more than a few hours before it sinks. Update: Looks like Linesystem has launched a new product to "replace" Wax Dango line - ISO Breakwater. Might consider giving this a go. http://www.fishingworld.com.au/product-reviews/review-linesystem-iso-break-water-float-line Cheers, Wellzy
frankS
Bit off the point but back in the day of us rockers when we wore Brylcream on our hair we would run the mono through our hair and it worked a treat. Frank
macman
Klaus from this site has tried a new floating line, Try PMing him, I think he goes by Stormy? I stocked up on dango wax while it was still available thankfully. Regards
