Big Yella
I've been getting some beach worms lately to try for some bream off the beach at Wollongong. Had some good success last Monday, with 2 bream at 34cm and 33cm and 1 at 28cm. Also got loads of small flattys and 1 whiting. Does anyone know if the bream come on during the winter? Cheers
Wellzy94
In my experience, bream are more active in the summer but the bream caught in winter tend to be bigger on average. Cheers, Wellzy
Papa
I've always found my healthiest fattest best bream in autumn and winter. Also fishing with fresh beach worms off the beach or structure connected to a beach produced best results that can include whiting, flathead, tailor, salmon mulloway, stringrays and shovelnose shark....all while trying to catch a humble bream. Aardvarking
A place I like to go in Wollongong is off the rocks just north of the swimming pool. At high tide I've gotten some pretty big bream and cod there. It's a bit prone to snags, but is a really fun spot. Where are you catching your beach worms in Wollongong? I've never had much luck there.
Gabm
I'd say most of the Wollongong ocean facing beaches would have them? Haven't done this in a while (maybe 3-4 years) but I've certainly caught them at Port Kembla (near break wall on South side), W'Gong South beach & have seen them at Fairy Meadow BW Corrimal & North. Next time you're at a beach at low tide, drag something along the water line @ a likely spot (non pebbly) & see if anything pops up. Maybe a current local can confirm? Ps: it's a frustrating job, unless you're experienced, which I'm not!
elferoz777
As a local id say fairy meadow is best for worms. Has least amountof grit n pebbles. I was a stocking with pilchards over the area and use same as hand bait. Works well n those big greenhead buggers turn up most times.
