Trevalley on wharf

Hi guys

I was wondering how to catch trevalley off the wharf. I am going to the bayview wharf in burwood after watching some people catch 3 big ones. Whats the best shape hook to use? I can get chicken but not prawns and have yellowtail for bait. Which of these baits would you say is the best for trevalley in the estuary? What kind of rig should I use? They were dropping the baits right off the wharf so you know. Thanks guys.

Peeled prawns are good bait for trevally, also chopped up pilchard. When targetting them I use around size 2/0 circle hooks and fully cover the hook in peeled prawns. Normally I'd use a very simple rig, weightless hook, but if there's some current I use a really small bead sinker just sitting on the hook.

go the prawns unweighted or very light sinker dropped around the pylons

once you hook up go for broke or they'll shred you on the pylons in an instant

For burley I usually sock some bread in tuna oil, then ground it up into powder and throw that out.

great burley for garfish as well

I always burley, with diced pillies, chicken pellets and bread.

Change type of bait from Chicken to Prawns to cubed pillies.
