Saltiga Surf Reel & Rod - anyone own one?

Just wondering if anyone owns either a Daiwa Saltiga Surf reel 6000 or the 13ft Saltiga Surf (Ballistics?) Rod and have any feedback on either?

I'm looking at getting this combo soon for chasing Jewfish off the beach, primarily would be using 4oz star sinkers and a slab bait (mullet/tailor fillets, squid etc) and load it with 40lb - 50lb braid.

Currently my heavy setup is a 12ft Penn Prevail matched to an older 8000 Shimano Sustain FE.
The Prevail can lob a heavy bait without a problem but looking for something a bit lighter - hence the upgrade.

Also open to other suggestions for a 12-13ft beach rod combo to target mulloway.

Not really what you were asking, but you may as well hear the long winded opinion. Be careful of going too heavy on the action of the rod.

Which model/weight Prevail do you have at the moment? I haven't used the Ballistics but i have the IZM 3 piece 15' extra heavy Sensor Surf, the one with K guides. I think a lighter model would be better for Jewies. I think it's a bit stiff  in the tip for Jewie bites. They are light to hold, cast, fish with, the butt is ridiculously long to fight a fish with but i believe you can cut them down, i haven't yet. The butts are long for casting. I made a belt that has about a 50mm diameter PVC end cap that hangs on VB cord between my knees that i rest the butt of the rod in to fight fish, or even holding and waiting for bites. The specs say that my rod can cast up to 300g but I have cast a combined sinker/bait rig of a kilo i reckon. It is a pretty brutal rod. For soapy jews you need to stop winding to check they are still on the hook because the rod is that stiff.

I normally don't fish with this rod unless i need to cast heavy weights a long way into heavy conditions as its a bit cumbersome. I have been thinking of getting a prevail for my heavy rod, i think the action on the prevails was more suited to jewies. The rods i use the most at the moment are a new heavy 13' Aerowave Graphite, an older model heavy 12' Aerowave Composite and an old school Butterworth MT7144. I think the rods you are looking at are  level above these. I run 65lb braid on baitrunners normally. This is so i can fish 50lb leader and get all my braid back if i get spooled by rays/sharks.

Thanks for the reply mate! The 15ft sensor surf does look like a beast of a rod.

I actually have a 12ft Sensor Surf IZM rod which I love, though its more suited to casting a 3-4oz and a pilchard or squid strip IMO (this exceeds the max rating but I find it's not an issue). When attempting to cast a larger bait I really have to be gentle and just lob it, only good for when the gutter is right in close.

I have it paired up with a 5500 Shimano ultegra and 30lb braid and it's exceptionally light and nice to fish with - perfect for salmon, tailor and smaller baits for jew.

The prevail is a great rod for the money(its the heavy 12ft version, things a broomstick!) - though it's a lot heavier and definitely doesn't feel as nice to use as the sensor surf (probably cause it's half the price!), there's really nothing wrong with it though ideally I'd like a rod with it's ability to cast large baits and the lightness and crispness of the sensor surf.

I was contemplating the 13ft sensor surf as that has a higher cast rating than the 12ft version - it looks to be the most suitable in the sensor surf range for what I'm after, though for a bit more I can get the saltiga surf which also looks like a great rod (though its older and doesn't appear to have been updated for awhile)

The Saltiga Surf ballistic rod is rated up to 280g cast weight and 7-15kg. I haven't used one, though on paper it looks like the perfect compromise between casting decent sized baits and still being light and nice to fish with.

I have two saltiga surf 6000 reels.  Extremely light reels.  I team them with 13foot live fibre trophy surf and snyder mt8144.  Obviously that for beach.  Also use them on the boat with 8-15kg texaliums.  The reels havnt really been strectched yet, biggest jew to date 12kg and bronzie about the 1.5m mark.  Handled both relatively easily though.

Had them for about 6 years now mate i wash them after use, dry them and oil as necessary and they both still feel great.  Never had them back to daiwa for service, but i have replaced line roller bearings and somehow i bent one of the bail arms(which i dont recommend you do$$$).  Other than that i just oil them id say on average 3 times a year......they do get plenty of use so i make sure i wash them regularly in the shower.  While ive never dropped them in sand while beaching, there have been times where my hands have been covered in bait and sand and after washing off, they have been fine.
