chokpa
never fished a FAD before but would I be correct in assuming it gets packed? every fisho with a boat must be trolling around there on the weekens?

Yep, putting the fish down, getting stroppy and catching micro dollies, Sydney FADS are a bit of a waste of time, other ones less hard hit up the coast can be pretty good. PS- dont troll round the FADS when boats are already on them
JonD
We mostly get them to ourselves down here, if I turn up at the fad and there's another boat I simply work my way along the trap line markers just inside the shelf. It's funny when you watch people flicking and trolling so close to the fads they end up loosing gear ( which we jump in and get!!). The fish can often be cruising 100m or more away from the fads, often ahead of the floats into the current and the big fish are rarely close with all the small ones. Even the fads up around th Coffs coast rarely have other boats fishing them when ever I head up there. Dolphin fish are amazing to get in with too, the colours are stunning. PaddyT
Thats true Jon , unfortunately off Sydney the FADS get hammered by impatient, discourteous , ignorant folk . I rarely bother and do as you do, find a fishtrap field , much better pickings most days and usually much more peaceful. 100% on the better fish running wider off the structure. Skeps
Hey guys, when does the activity start to pick up around the fads? Is it mostly dollies hanging off them or does kings make a show? cheers
tyrone07
Lots of tiny kings last season off the Terrigal Fad, watch the sea surface temps, Broken Bay was 17 degrees and cold green water last week, out past the shelf was 22 and electric blue raging to the south so won't be to far away
