Siesta911
Went to Pittwater yesterday. First fished at Stokes Point, but little productive. Then moved to the Soldiers Point. There absolutely dead water... Moved up to the West Head and there were a lot of kingy activities. Caught probably 6-7 of them, but all of them were around 60cm. While there, a king (must be) has snatched my bait fishing gear out of the boat!! I left it unattended while unhooking a rat. If anyone catches a king with my gear (Shimano Catana Rod, Shimano 2500 Baitrunner with light green braid on it), please let me know!!! Much appreciated. Happy fishing! Oldfella
Hi Siesta; You do not have to travel all round Pittwater to find kingies this time of the year. They love structure, So any wharf , marina , or large moored boat is worth a look. You usually get a strike where the light changes. A troll around Towlers Bay is always worth a go. Not only for kings , you can pick up nearly anything in there. The entrance to Mc Carrs creek is another spot to try. along with Browns Bay. Only thing is with the water being still and clear they are awfully choosey.. Fish too heavy and you will not get at touch fish too light and you will be around a mooring chain like a shot!! Same applies to the Naval wharf at Taylors point There are usually quite a few kingies in the shadows under the wharf. But if you hook one Best of British luck trying to keep it out of the piles!! I have often seen them on the flats around Rowland reserve chasing baitfish when I have been spinning for flatties. As I use a 2kg outfit for this as far as I am concerned Discretion is the Better part of Valour Hope this bit of info is of use to you. Cheers. Oldfella. 3

Oldfella
Hi Again Siesta. My Pleasure to pass on the info. I do not believe in this guff that some of the "gurus' ,"experts" "legends in their own lunctimes" carry on with. What I want to know is How the bloody hell did they learn?? I would think same as I did. Fishing with and listening to the old blokes on the wharf or wherever, The old blokes that taught me have been fishing in another place for many years , They always told us "When we have gone it is up to you young fellas to pass on what we told you"I I agree!!. You go fishing to prevent bloody ulcers not to get them Soapbox now stowed, Cheers. Oldfella.
Bryson
Hey sorry to just jump in on this topic but I'm desperate for my first kingy and was wondering if any of these sujjested spots are accessible for a land based fisho like myself? ?? shipwrecked
I caught my first king in pittwater by hiring a run about from one of the boathouses around there. Great day on the water, relatively inexpensive and gives you access to many parts of beauiful Pittwater and a chance at a Kingie. Worth considering. Siesta911
Again, thanks Oldfella. Cound't agree more with you! Bryson, if you are willing to cross the bridge, you could try Little Manly - fish out of the rocks next to the Jump Rock. Must get there early to get a good spot though, say 3-4am. Until the dawn you can try squidding as well as catching yakkas. School of kings come around searching for brekkies at the dawn and if you have a live squid then, catching a king is very likely during this time of year. JFYI, one of my mates caught this giant jew there. Happy fishing!
Oldfella
Hi Siesta; Passing on info like this has got me into strife on a couple of occasions. First was a young fella that fishes the top end of Pittwater asked a couple of questions. One of the "gurus ' came out with the "it,s a big secret I will not tell you " card. I replied on open forum and near told him what rock or patch of weed to cast to. The young guy caught fish. Good luck to him. The amount of personal abusive emails I received was unbelievable Second one was one of the " legends in their own lunchtimes' was slagging off at professionals.!I pointed out if the pro fishes to the letter of the law they are primary producers This character I might add was involved in bream tournaments and was crowing how much he had won. I pointed out rather strongly that as he fished for gain or reward HE was a professional. Talk about causing a stink!! Net result was I was banned from the site!! That is why I now post here. Have to watch out sometimes. There are quite a few sensitive bar stewards around!! Cheers. Oldfella.

Sharing is caring I guess, especially to those who fish land based and had no chance to land a king. Everyone deserves feel the excitement! luderick -angler
Oldfella, good stuff mate. Dad was tight lipped about the blackfish. Me less so as I want the art to continue and I have had many a message amd have been happy to send people on the right direction. Cheers for your post I may head up to Rowland Park soon and have a go for them in the flats with the fly! cheers
Oldfella
Hi mate; Think if I was going to try a fly around Rowland Reserve personally I would be thinking about either a yabbie or a squirt worm pattern. Do not think a weed fly would be very successful this time of year. If you are going to wander further on over the weeds between the Sea Scout Hall and Bayview Baths maybe a throw or two with a shrimp patters might be worth a go. Anyway , using a yabbie or a worm pattern could result in whiting , a flaiite or a flounder. Also don't forget the sandy hole behind the rock heap out from the Scout Hall. There have been some strange beasties come out of there over the years! Best of luck. Cheers. Oldfella

Oldfella Thanks for that but I’ve got the 9 weight ready to go and I’m looking for kings landbased on fly! Any recommendations if you could? Oldfella
Hi Again L A, That sandy hole behind the rock heap previously mentioned would be worth a go. Also Bayview Wharf. That could be tiger country though with the marina there on your left. Directly out in front of the wharf could be another spot to try. Could be one sitting in the shadows under your feet Only thing there is the wharf used to be a lot longer than it is now and there is a heap of old piles etc on the bottom. Another spot that could be worth a shot . Opposite the Pub on the end of the sand there is a starboard hand channel marker, (green.) About 20 metres or so back towards the ramp there is usually and eddy where baitfish shelter. Usually small mullet , hardiheads and at times small garfish. A few casts there may help. Let me know if any success. Cheers. Oldfella.

eastwood1980
Fished the Pittwater on Monday kings are pretty much everywhere but all rats, hard to get cube pillies down to reach the flatties, first time kings being a pest but I guess fun on light gear. Ended up with only 5 flatties. Try Pittwater really active at the moment.

When we first started we had a very nasty group on here that used to harass and bully members mercilessly about disclosing all the "good secret spots". They made threats to many. When Stewy and I bought this site it was my personal project to make fishraider a safe and happy place for ALL people, races, genders and levels of angling ability and experience to share information for all to enjoy. Women and young folk have always been welcomed. You would not believe the bullying and bad mouthing we got initially. I had emails, anonymous of course telling me to "get back in the kitchen and bedroom and stay out of men's business"! They did not like a woman owning a fishing website hmmmm. Well look now where we are - the "other" fishing sites have all closed down and we remain! Oldfella I was a member of almost every fishing forum and I reckon I know the site you got banned from. It was full of all the rejects from here that we banned and removed because of their disgusting behaviour and trouble they caused on our forum. People also continuously posted pics that had backgrounds and faces of the angler obliterated. These fishing reports consisted of these pics and said "look what I caught today". A fishing report is NOT a brag board pic. Sometimes they even photoshopped someone else's captures. Go play in facebook or insta if you just want to brag I reckon. There are NO secret spots - our fathers, grandfathers, gmothers etc have all fished them for years. Nobody owns any fishing areas. Our country has so many wonderful areas to fish and enjoy the outdoors. You will never be removed from here for helping others and sharing information. This is embedded in our site rules, mentor badge, adopt a learner, all the workshops we held over the years to teach others etc etc. Those that do not like sharing and helping may leave anytime. Sadly I have seen a few comments by a member on a recent post that really astounded me considering he himself was targeted many years ago for disclosing a fishing spot. By the way if you as a member are harrassed or bullied on here please let Admin or Mods know and we can deal with this. Posts can be reported or brought to our attention by pressing the "report post" on any post. This will come straight though to us to look at. We don't see much of this sort of report to us but the opportunity is there if needed. Well that is my rant (will put soapbox away). Enjoy fishraider for what it is folks - lets all help and share and enjoy the sport, fishraider spirit lives on!
Oldfella
Hullo Boss Lady; Well said and beautifully put!! I am no spring chicken but every time I fish it brings back a heap of memories of the old hands, Probably ( almost certainly I am a better person from meeting these old blokes. From sitting on a rock being shown how to rig up to being attached to a bait pump whilst instructions were given. Also being taught etiquette in fishing and dealing with people. Would not hurt a majority of the yoof these days! Mind you some of these old blokes were pretty hard bitten. One old fella that was a luderick specialist off the rocks was a good teacher. First mistake you were told , second mistake you were REA LLY told third mistake you got a light clip under the ear or a kick in the bum!! Strangely you never made a fourth. They were just like a team of grandfathers or uncles. When we grew up a bit it used to be a pleasure fishing with them and after adjourning to the local water hole for a beer, Lot of fishing problems ironrd out and quite a few personal ones too. That is why I give the younger ones all the help I can. Again well done!! Cheers. Oldfella.

You learnt there was etiquette get in the line work the drift. Don’t come down to a ledge tossing lead over floats (really frowned on). Like you I try to tell younger folk and newcomers the art of luderick fishing on the stones and how to work a drift in line so all get fish! Some won’t listen! Different age and ethics back in the day! Still I try to impart my knowledge of ledges when not to be on them and when to be. It’s unfortunate some people are too arrogant to listen and end up in the drink. As you said the three warnings system made sure you never made that mistake again. Hence why were still here! Oh and by the way I got snuck into the saloon bar underage.....
