Sigma
Hello Raiders, Been thinking about getting an electric motor but have no idea what would suit my boat. Couple of my mates have Minn Kota's but they also have smaller boats like a 4.30 ally and a 4.49 Hornet. I have a Quintrex 560 Freedom Sport and obviously their 55lb electrics wouldn't be sufficient? I have no idea what length shaft or what size thrust do I need. Looking at some models like the Motorguide Xi5 which have a 72 inch shaft and 105lb of thrust...is this long/powerful enough or is it overkill? I would also like a GPS unit that I could connect to my Lowrance HDS7 touch. Appreciate all advice.... Cheers Dave

T_Bert83
Hi Dave, I have a 80lb Motorguide xi5 on my 4.81 topender and it is more than powerful enough even on the roughest days. I wouldn't think you would need the 105lb motor unless you need the 72" shaft. Here is a link to minn kota motor selector guide which should help with what shaft length you need. https://minnkota.com.au/selection-guide/ Hope someone can help you more Cheers Trav Edited March 24, 2019 by T_Bert83

onearmedfisho
Mate, for your 5.6m I would go the Motor Guide Xi5 80lb with a 72"shaft and GPS. With the gateway kit you will be able to connect it to your sounder

I'm presuming that the gateway kit you mention is the NMEA2000 connection?
Sigma
Looking at the Motorguide Xi5 mentioned, it appears that it has no connection with your sounder....am I right?
T_Bert83
My motorguide links to my lowrance units via the NMEA2000 that you mentioned. I don’t think lowrance will connect to a Minn Kota but I may be wrong.
Berleyguts
I have a Minn Kota. My Humminbird 798ci supposedly connects to it but I don’t know how!

mii11x
Pretty sure you need to setup up a nmea network first, then the mg gateway kit adapts off that
