Hey Raiders,

This is the first of two belated reports ...

Thursday I had the opportunity to catch up with a couple of friends (Wazza and Gil) who moved from Sydney to Woy Woy of all places !  We agreed to meet at Parsley Bay ramp and go chase flatties and then head out further to the Sydney North FAD.

We met at dawn, and headed to the 50m grounds - lots of sounder activity .... dropped lines in only to be smashed by a plague of tailor all about 30cm, jackets and a sole keeper nannygai.  Smaller tailor went back and bigger ones in the live tank.  Eventually we scored a couple of keeper flathead the biggest of the day (57cm) came up on the Bottom Bouncing strategy inspired jig (see the DIY workshop post). .. so we know the jigs work.

We got tired of the tailor (actually to be honest, I got tired of being reminded -- where are the flatties ???) so we headed to the FAD.  Conditions were great, we trolled a variety of skirts and had the first hookup about 1.5km from the FAD... an undersized dollie. Followed immediately by another undersized dollie.  Trolled the FAD for a few runs for 3 keeper dollies. Then it all went quiet. We moved closer and dropped a few cut baits for zero strikes or takers.

Headed back to 50m grounds for another run at the flatties - but ended up with  3 kingfish 62, 64 and 66cm. So one keeper. Kept a bunch of legal tailor - filleted to try salting down for bait.

All in all a great day catching up with friends and a very mixed day fishing.

Cheers Zoran

Thanks Sam ... yes bit of a bummer actually as they really messed up the flathead ground - the tailor were in a "bait" ball that spanned from 30m -50m depth.  Here's a snap I extracted from a video which shows a foul hooked yakka on the top hook and a tailor on the bottom sinker jig.... we were getting double tailor hookups bouncing the sinkers on the bottom.

Cheers Zoran

You are right, however in my defense I was helping out a mate who needed some guidance and a hand. 🙂

Wow a big school of tailor out in 50m, I wonder what they were feeding on, must’ve been cooler water down deep, great mixed bag & report , good to see you’re sinker jigs is working well

There were yakkas in the mix but the ones we landed were the bigger variety 25-30cm... about the same size as the tailor. It had me stumped as well.  What also has me stumped is that the tailor school was still there 3 days later when I went out on Sunday... beat's me .... we stopped feeding them when we left the first time ! 😂

You always manage to create a fabulous report with the inclusion of great pics. Keep them coming, I'm certainly a big fan. Another successful outing with a few mates...life's good, eh Zoran? Cheers, bn

Thanks so much @big Neil, I just write them up as they happen. Sometimes we get great results and sometimes nothing.  But if you think about it, any day on the water with a bunch of mates is FANTASTIC.  I've travelled to many parts of the world and truly appreciate how much of a paradise we live in... so yeah life's good .... and too bloody short! - a good friend once told me "you're a long time dead" ..... that inspired me to live each day as best as I can.

Cheers Z
