Fishing ponds/lakes around Macarthur NSW region?

Hi all, does anyone know of any good land based areas that would be safe for myself and my 10 yr old stepson (I'm a female) to go fishing, or even myself when I want some alone time and can feel safe? 

 

I am looking for just catch and release, any sort of fish would be fine just something fun to do with my kiddo.   

 

I live in Narellan Vale, I have tried the river in Camden (Nepean I think?) with no such luck I am willing to about a 45 min drive out of the way to get a nice place.  Thanks for any and all help!!!

Maybe not within a 45min drive from Narellan vale, maybe closer to an hour out of your way(Penrith/Cranebrook). I have plenty of spots from yarramundi bridge all the way upto near warragamba, but in terms of good landbased spot around nepean way and safe for your kids, there is few. I have taken my kids to a couple of these safer spots and had luck. Werrington Lakes, along with woodcroft, although these locations are around the hour mark from narellan vale they both have jettys, full of carp and are quite kid friendly, no bush bashing, just grass and jettys, haven't fished out Narellan in a while but i know of some spots, PM me and i should be able to make you up a map. also a good spot under a bridge near Liverpool Hospital way and also at the back of it, on the georges, caught some flathead here.

you could try on the rivers at menangle and douglas park you can drive real close to the river search with google earth
