Hastings river

Fished the Hastings river Saturday night and ended up with three nice Jewies. Two over 80cm and 1 at 70cm. The river was full of garfish which made it easy to scoop them up with the net and use as bait.

Can you send a few of those jewies up to the Macleay river

Nice catch @Hansard! Did you use them as livies, or fillets and what rig was used?

We get a lot of garfish in Lake Mac, haven;t used them as bait much but will give it a try I've heard they are good bait.

Hi lakelad,  no fancy rig just a running paternoster and J hook through the eye. The garfish were dead and used whole. When filleting the fish we found a garfish in one and a small mullet in the other. Haven't used garfish before either but couldn't resist as they were everywhere.
