darcy77
Well this is my first post and keen to get some more up. Went to Fig Tree this afternoon for a spin and got 2 undersized flathead in less than an hour, used squidgy flick baits. I have only been down there a couple of times since moving to Lane Cove and it is a great little spot - any reports of jewies or large flathead there recently?? Guest madsmc
to FishRaider darcy. That's not a bad start to fishing a new area mate, sure beats a donut I'm sure one of the Sydney based Raiders will help you out with advice on Lane Cove. For further research you could always browse, or search the older posts on the site. I haven't tried the Squidgy Flickbaits yet. Have you been using them long? What's your success rate with them? Captain Pugwash
Sounds like you are doing OK all by yourself, I can't help on that spot but I'm sure other raiders will kick in and help out. Cheers Peter

adrian_nasti
Welcome Darcy! The Fig Tree is a great spot for flathead, especially on dead low tide. You can fish the sandbar by wading out on low tide. I only fish using a fly rod, but I can imagine the SP's will do well as well. Cheers Adrian

Shane I have been using them for a couple of weeks now and they are great on flatties, i reckon they would be great on bream with the finesse resin heads - they have minimal action compared to the wrigglers/shads. At Fig Tree they have been the sp of choice

Jeff
Hi Darcy, Welcome to the site. I'm one of the guys who fishes Figtree regularly. I notice from your photo that you are using a round headed jig on the flick bait. Try using one of Squidgy finesse heads in 0.5g (or equivalent from one of the other manufacturers). Most of the area you can cast to while wading Figtree is only a metre or two deep at low tide so you don't need much weight and the flat sided head on the jig seems to give a bit more darting action. I find Figtree fishes better when there is some movement in the water so I usually get there around low tide and fish the run in until I get washed off the sandbar. At high tide you can also fish the other side, either under the bridge or at the next bay along which is at the back of Hunter's Hill High School. Jewfish are rumored to be in the area, but I have never heard of anyone catching one from the shore. Flathead, bream, whiting and tailor are the most common for me with the occasional flounder. Riggy pulled some trevally but he was fishing from a boat. Hope this helps a little, Jeff
