James Clain
Saragosa or Penn Slammer III reels. Shimano Tcurve or Ocea offshore Rods. You are using pretty big jigs so you need to go the bigger end of those models. Saragosa 20 - 25 thousand. Slammer III 9500 - 10500. There are cheaper Shimano and Penn reels probably a few cheaper ones out there in other brands I am educated in. The thing is the Saragosa and slammer both have great value for money but and are great quality. They are still quite pricey but these reels will last longer than a few splashes of water and a few big fish. The Saragosa especially has some great reviews from many members on this forum and experiences of my own. It has exceptional durability and hardiness. They arent flash like a stella but still have a lot of great features and strength. I Have heard Good things about the slammer especially its high drag rating of 60lb but I do not own one so I can't comment too much.
SnapperSaunders
Cheers for that. Wow there some big thumping reels you have suggested. Will be fishing mainly out of my kayak for kings offshore so was looking for a bit more lightweight set-up. 200gm jigs will be Max prob average ones used around the 80-120gms. Didn't think you had to go so full on for those weights. I have caught kings jigging on a gomoku with 3000 fj stradic and 15lb line but wanted a lets call it a medium set-up to give me a bit more of a chance. I have a heavy overhead set-up that can do jigs 200-350gm. Anyone used any of the Nitro jigging rods? Cheers
JonD
The kings have been getting far bigger lately. For us down here on the south coast fish of 9to 13kg have been most common on rod and line. Underwater hunting we are getting fish of 130cm. My advice wouldn't be to go bellow a stradic 5000 on them unless the fish are over a sandy bottom. Im having heaps of fun using a little 5000 strady with an ocean legacy rod. This is simular to the gomoko style of rods.

SnapperSaunders
Awesome thanks mate, the bottom is not the best so good call on the 5000. What line do you run, main and leader and what rating rod did you go.

What line do you run, main and leader and what rating rod did you go. I've been using suffix 131 and totally love the stuff. Its more expensive but is lasting better than anything else Ive used before, its silky smooth and casts very well too. Im using 20lb and 30lb on two reels . Leaders have been from bulk spools of mamoi diamond clear mono. The ratings of this line are weird, 20lb is actually 38lb and 50lb is around 80lb. I've landed kings on both regularly but the heavier gives me more piece of mind. The stradic also works well from the shore and will hold 300m of 131 in both 20lb and 30lb strengths. I haven't tried the very latest new stradic but would very much like one. Edited April 28, 2020 by JonD
kingfishbig
Have you considered an overhead? They seem a bit more durable than threadlines in the lower price bracket. I prefer them for jigging and fishing big fish.
