UK_Merlin
Hi, newbie first poster, and proud new owner of a 1972 25hp 3.6m runabout that I saved from scrapping. The hull is pretty poor, so is the trailer but the outboard is very good. My first idea was to buy a Quintrex Busta 420 hull, fit a side console and transfer the outboard. That would give me a decent little fishing boat to launch off Aldinga Beach on good days, but will cost $8,000 for a new hull and trailer, money I could be putting into something bigger. I could be tempted to raise my sights and get a 4.2 Renegade or 4.29 Stacer Outlaw, or maybe a 4.3 Fishabout Pro. That would give me a small day boat for family outings / river trips. Anyone able to comment on the suitability of any of these boats. Fishing and beach launching the first priority, family use is the bonus. Budget $8,000 to 25,000... Thanks 🛥 Edited November 21, 2020 by UK_Merlin Edited out some confusing bits
noelm
A 25 on a Renegade or Outlaw will be no speed boat.
noelm
The Renegade and Outlaw are heavy boats compared to an "open" tiller steer, they come standard with full ply floors, casting deck, rear deck and carpet, full gunnels, it all adds up, I think the minimum HP is 30? Sorry I realise how my OP is a bit confusing. If I decide the Busta with my 25 is a no go a then I will sell what I have in the photo inc the Mercury OB and have to bite the bullet and spend more and get a Renegade or Outlaw or something, and yes, you are right I'd need a 40 or 50. I guess my real question is how easy is it to beach launch a Renegade 420, Fishabout Pro 430 or an Outlaw 429?
noelm
Should be easy enough with a decent trailer and suitable tow vehicle.
Someboatguy
oh boy, something I know about. 😁 waiting on my 4.29 tiller outlaw, they usually come with a 40hp. I opted for 50 and will probably mod it to 60hp cos Yolo. I think dry weight of the boat alone is 300kg with no motor. anyway if I was you I'd go the new Quintrex trigger it has a max of 25hp I believe. which means it'll be great for your existing motor and beach launching. the outlaw isn't that cheap cost me $19,900 😫 a trigger without a motor is about $7000 on a trailer. OK thanks I'll look at the Trigger as well. You are right about the cost; I look at that fairly decent motor and it would cost so much more to buy the full Outlaw/Renegade package. Any particular trailer you could recommend for a 4.2 for beach launching? Bit of a noob here! LOL
