Miketheangler
Had a bit of a sleep in and my uncle called for a little impromptu jet ski session on the Nepean river. He recently setup a rod rack and I thought I’d bring a rod along. We launched at the tench reserve boat ramp, gotta say the new ramp is awesome. After passing lapstone, we continued upstream for a couple hundred meters. We were in a stretch with no boats, all we can hear was the wild. Small bass (<10cm) can be seen occasionally rising and nipping tiny stuff off the surface. I had rigged a 2.5 inch watermelon red grub with a betts spinner. After lots of casts I skipped the lure under a tree, bouncing off a small stone and landing next to the bank. IMG_3343.MOV Only just flicking the bail arm over and beginning the retrieve I had hooked a small bass, around the 20cm mark. After many casts later I spotted a solid weed-bed that extended out from a set of rocks. I put a cast in right down the middle of this little weed bed and a solid bass hammered it (31-35cm mark). After charging into the weeds and using 6lb leader, I called it for a monster, until I muscled him out and the weight eased. Overall it was a fun time on the Nepean sneaking in a few casts. With the water still being quite chilly I think we have a great season ahead. Pickles
Great stuff Mike, the mighty bass are fantastic fighters. If you haven’t read it John Bethune’s book on Bass is an absolute classic.
