nutsaboutfishing
Just had a question. Is there any difference between fishing a deep diver with your rod tip held higher, to fishing a shallow diver in the usual the rod tip down position? Cheers Richard
big Neil
Yes Richard. The mere difference in shape, size, bib size and its angle dictate how a hardbody lure will move through the water. Of even more importance is the retrieve speed. Of course the relationship of the rod tip to the water (and hence the lure) also comes into play. Interested in the reason for your question. Cheers, bn

Reason I asked was I was wondering whether or not to invest in shallow divers or just use deeps with my rod held high.
rickmarlin62
Once uou cast a deep diver any distance an start retrieving it will start diving deep even with tip held high but shallow divers will only run to a shallow depth no matter whete the tip is the design of deep divers with larger longer bibs and attach point dictate angle of dive n run shallow have small short bibs and attachment on mose of body buy yourself some of both its not worth the bother trying to make a lure do wot its mot made for

Much depends on what you're targeting of course and the likely depths that you're fishing. Example... I fish mainly for Murray Cod in water that may be a few feet deep or 30 feet deep. There's no single lure that will accommodate these variances other than a spinnerbait, which is an excellent choice in respect of the depth issue. However, spinnerbaits follow a straight line when retrieved...sometimes there is insufficient "action" to stir a fish to strike them. Other hard bodied lures would have a much more varied retrieve, swerving this way and that in an unpredictable manner...often likely to get a predators interest as it MORE resembles a wounded bait fish. What fish are you likely to be targeting Richard? bn

I’ve been using deep divers and when I feel then bumping the bottom I usually raise my tip a bit so they’re only lightly contacting the bottom rather than digging in, which got me thinking do I really need shallow divers if I can just raise my rod with deeps. Green Hornet
Okay, if you're chasing bream you definitely need a couple of shallow running lures. Not necessarily for the depth that they run at, which as mentioned above is important, but for the fact that a shallow runner with its smaller bib has a much more subtle action that bream seem to prefer. As a guy that used to fish a lot of bream tournaments, IMO once you're looking at a lure to run at a depth over 1.2 metres, its time to leave the hardbodies in the box and switch to plastics or blades.
