Saturday day on the kings

Ian and Dave joined my for their first fishing session on kings (I found out later the yakkas - bait,  were the biggest fish they’d caught). Weather report looked good, (but they got it wrong again) the moon and the tides were good, the bait was easy, the sun was out, but the swell and the wind, were shocking(20kn from the SW outside and a 1.5-2m swell).  After filling up the live bait tanks we headed outside around North Head but after one rat Kingie of 57and sloppy conditions  and Dave providing berley from the past three days meals, I decided to head back calmer waters (no fun at all being crook and want to keep the crew happy).

We caught up with several other Raiders (Ledge and Aiden) and touched base with a few others enjoying the fine weather.

Headed around South head to avoid the wind, dropped down and Ian got smoked by a big king immediately - due to inexperience and letting it run - straight to the bottom and “snap”. We were fishing my normal rig of 65lb braid, 80 leader to shogun swivel and 100 / 130lb to the hook, so must have been a good one. It could have been a shark, but unlikely.
30 mins later, Dave hooked up, fumbled the rod and dropped another good one, but landed a nice 52 cm salmon shortly afterwards.

We were on a tight time frame so started heading back in about 10 am - glad we did as the parking area at the ramp was chokers.
