Alex75
Hi All Been looking at 2 boats and need some opinions to which do you think would be better? All it will be used for is for my son and I to start finishing and learning as we go as we are very new to boating. I am going to do all the checks when we get there but just curious to have some opinions on which would be a better buy to set up for fishing, it will be my 2nd boat the first was had to many issues but I learnt a lot on the way. Which do you think would be the best boat? Mustang or the Savage Envoy? Thanks guys Savage Envoy 55hp Evinrude on Gumtree http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/1265492548?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=ios_VIP&utm_medium=social&utm_source=sms OR http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/1264365567?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=ios_VIP&utm_medium=social&utm_source=sms
noelm
Rot in the floor and transom need to be checked, older boats were built pretty rough, with cheap timber glassed over, holes get drilled over the years to fit "stuff" and water gets in, and the rot starts, and can be expensive to repair. frankS
In my opinion both those boats are about 2-3 thousand dollars over priced. You could do far better than them for that sort of dollars. I recently sold this one for $2000 and it had a full reconditioned motor with 19 hours work on it. Frank

Frank Hi frank I have got them both down to a reasonable price a lot less than they were asking.

kingie chaser
14 minutes ago, motiondave said: boats are very overpriced at the moment, the joke is they are adding "covid tax", and so people offering to buy usually are throwing offers of 1/3 the asking price. Might be ok, except that the 1/3 is well below what the seller wants for it. motors on each boat look 40 years old, if they run right, especially on the water, anywhere between $600-$1000 for the motor. as for the boat, hulls are dime a dozen, so $500-$1000 if its all good, and if its registered.or higher depending on what sort of boat it is. trailers, again depending on age and condition, and as long as it is registered , not the seller saying " will easily pass blue slip or easy to rego" do not believe it. Ive blue slipped two trailers, in the past, its a headache and can cost up to a few hundred in inspection, register, etc. So price for a trailer, anywhere from $500-$1000. thats a realistic price guide, but most people want way too much and trying to buy cheap is very difficult. and those who are selling cheap are being way undercut in offers. All pretty fair points Dave, I think people selling older boats atm are banking on the fact there are so many people waiting for new boats & the second hand market is going like hot cakes so really its a supply & demand thing & that usually pushes prices up, like in any commodity. Rebel
The first boat is overpriced by at least $2000. The Second boat has problems as noted Be aware. Also over priced. Cheers.
Fab1
People want to pay peanuts for boats and sellers want top dollar.I've been offered 5k for my boat and for that I will be keeping it. If you are new to boating I'd highly recommend some sort of tinny as there's usually less to go wrong with them being more forgiving of user error, cheaper to run, tow, maintain, launch, retrieve for the same given size as a glass one. Old fibreglass boats with just as old motors are a mugs game unless you know your way around boats, have the necessary skills, tools, and most of all $$$$ to bring them back up to scratch.Out sourcing the work is not financially beneficial . No one will take the time, care and pride in doing a job well done like you will. Out of those two boats I'd leave them there and go looking for a decent ally one and you can thank me later. Good luck in your search. Cheers. Edited January 16, 2021 by Fab1

PaddyT
Alex-what are you in a rush for - these sort of FG boats can be chock full of hard to see and hard to fix problems. Assuming you are brand new maybe reset your sights to a bare bones tinnie- any structural issues will be obvious , easy (relativly speaking ) to fix. You can add bits, modify it and your fishing sights will be expanded enormously. There will always be other boats-also buy in winter time- they are always cheaper!!
