sjmart
Hi all, Just wanted to ask the question of lures in the surf, i'm heading down to Merimbula for a week and was wondering what is the best lures to use and what is the best way to rig them up, i've been told straight on the line no swivels nothing just tie the line to the lure. I though this sounded a little strange (line tangle)!! Please help!! signed, Confused!!!
Mondo Rock
Hi sjmart The only lures I've ever had any success with in the surf have been metal slices. Easy to cast a long way and will be taken by both Salmon and Tailor. I've also heard some Raiders talk of jews off the beach using big soft-plastic shads but have not had any luck myself. Hope this helps Mondo
Coach
i was on a quiet beach (little surf) and was working a 6" powershad in White.. My thinking was that it would look like a whiting bumping along. My first time trying it I hooked up to a unit of a Jew (two weeks ago) that took me for a ride for 10-15 minutes before the line parted.. In hindsight I should have had trace on it. Havent used slices or anyother lures at all, but I like the shads as its a slower retreive and even the slightest movement of water gets the "tail beating" Its also easier to jig a shad into a beach for a few hours rather than cranking a slice on all the time (particuallry at night) good luck
Guest lbgking
Big chrome slugs like Halco's with the reflectors or Raiders in 65g. You will definately need a swivel. I use snap swivels for easy lure change overs.
