Aquaholic
I am looking to buy Savage 540 Lancer Cuddy Cabin 1998 with 90 hp Johnson. All the reports etc I have read are positive. I am looking to use it for fishing and general family use. Can anyone provide and feedback positive or negative on this boat. I am new to this site and find the information and topics great. Cheers, Aquaholic :grogon:
Grantm
Gday Aqua, I thought the 540 was an OSPREY not a LANCER? Either way I reckon their not a bad runabout range. I prefer more cover personally and perhaps a 115 hp motor.A bit of extra grunt is better. If you like these style of boats check out the Stacer range of Cuddys as well, they have a bit more cover which I like. Good luck with the purchase Edited September 23, 2004 by Grantm
sk.
Gday Aquaholic We have a 5.25m Savage Osprey brand new in the end of 2001. The motor is a 90hp Mercury and it really suits it. We sometimes tow a tube with 2 people in it, no worries. Nothing has gone wrong with our boat yet, so I have no obligations not to recommend it. Regarding the Lancer and Osprey size models, older they are smaller they are. Ie Savage Osprey in 2001 was 5.25m and Lancer was 5.65m Now in 2004 Osprey is 5.4m and Lancer 5.8m
Billfish
I had a 540 Lancer a few years back. It was fully tricked up with outriggers, GPS etc with a 115HP on the back. It was a dream to drive, very stable and made quite a few sorties out wide and not once did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe out there.
