Just making sure you put the sounder where the wash from your prop does not affect the readings when going at speed.

It is the only place it can go really, I dont think going wider on the transom will matter as I can only go over another 3 or 4 inches

your transducer is on the wrong side of the engine-if you can switch sides you will get far better results. a normal rotating prop spinning clockwise throws an enormous amount of wash to the port side of the boat and NO transducer can blast through the aeration.

I have a suction cup mount I can try with the transducer on the starboard side to see if it makes a difference.

Still....for that price and the hit rate on fish I've had, I'm certainly not going to spend up to $45 a kilo for leathery bait. 

i totally agree , i would never  pay that much for bait or even for  fish fillets  from the shop
