More slightly less micro dollies (Sydney)

Headed out with @The Revand @ReelEm to chase dollies out of Sydney. Day started well with livies plentiful in the harbour and a truly glorious sunrise. Once we had a tank full we took off straight to the FAD. Based on the people arriving at the livey spot we thought we were likely ahead of the masses as we headed out. And it was true, we arrived at the FAD just as another boat arrived from the south but otherwise empty!

The current was ridiculous......ripping at over 2 knots. However, on the first drift we had a triple hook on the unweighted livies. All were between 40-59.99 cm so nothing for the bin. We proceeded to catch a fish or two every drift and also deployed a nice white diving lure on the way back up current. It caught a fish every pass. Overall we caught around 12+ fish but unfortunately no dinner. Great fun though. We did spot a couple of bigger models but no dice getting them to take our offerings.

Once the action died down we trolled around a bit for a stripey and a bonnie (dinner). Heading back the wind had picked up considerably offshore (we were 11nm out) hence it made for a bumpy and wet ride home. Arrived back in the harbour around 11am to beautiful conditions and a very easy demobe.

Great way to start a Friday. No photos as nothing particularly special to show!

Cheers

I had a look out at south Sydney fad on Thursday, currents really strong and a bit like a washing machine out there, so headed back in. Bit less wind this morning though.

Bet you still had fun, even though they were below. 👍

Better than nothing though, at least they were getting bigger than last trip. Sounds like an awesome day to be out, in my case, beats school!

We went out too (later than you though), and visited a couple of FADs, including a couple of private ones. The wave rider and Sydney Harbour FADs were quite busy but didn’t see any Dollie’s being caught - is that where you were, or were you at a different one? We got a few rat kingies on livies but didn’t see any big fish (or dollies) follow our bait. That is fishing sometimes…

Quite a few boats out, and a cracker of a day. Water was as glassy as I’ve seen coming home around 11. Great photos, great report!

Cheers mate. Yeah. We were at the FAD SE of the harbour. Wasn't too bad.

Well written Dunc and thanks again for the opportunity. I really had a great day. As it was my first time fishing for dollies, I was looking forward to catch at least one but what an awesome day I think I got 3/4. Even though none keeper, I had one of the best fishing day. They are such a beautiful looking and powerful fish, even those smaller ones made my day a colourful day. Great company like yourself @dlvbwand Bruce @The Rev made the day event full with ideas and knowledge.

Looking forward to head back out soon for some big ones.

cheers

MD

P.S- that stripey was not a bad thing, I would rate them 4 out of 5.

Thanks @dlvbw

It seems like the FADs to the south of the harbour are producing better results than the ones to the north at the moment (ie Sydney east, Botany bay wide vs Sydney Harbour and Sydney North).
