JustJames
After the Deluge I've been chomping at the bit to get back to some fishing. I fish from a boat, prefer to use lures and bonnies are my fave species for catching and eating. Truth be told, I am happy to catch and cook but apart from sushi rolls, not so crazy about the eating. On Sunday I went solo, launching at Roseville just before 7. I didn't want to be heading out in the dark as I had concerns about debris in the water. As it happened there weren't too many branches to dodge although the water at the ramp was full of sticks, leaves and twigs. By about 7.20 I was at Middle Head and put out 2 trolling lures, and fairly quickly had a small bonnie on board. Sushi rolls guaranteed! Some more passes up and down Middle Head saw a second bonnie on ice. Something frisky took a lure and pulled lots of line really fast, but the line got bust off, so I am pretty sure that was a big kingy reefing me. A few passes around Dobroyd Head were fruitless so I headed off towards North Head. En route one of the rods sang a zingy song. Fighting a fish solo, with some swell about was interesting but it didn't take too long before I had a 70cm kingfish on board a little after 9 o'clock. That was enough to feed friends and family. The state of the ocean meant that going fast would be uncomfortable so I trolled back to Balmoral without putting any more runs on the board. At Chinaman's I stopped to clean the catch afloat, and then cruised under Spit Bridge just before it opened. It was such a quick morning I hadn't even had time to finish my brekkie so I poured a cup of coffee to wash down a croissant on the way back to Roseville. One is frightfully sophisticated don'tcha know! Back off the water just after 10.30 with nary a crowd at the boat ramp and just delighted with the morning. Had friends over for dinner and treated them to sushi rolls and BBQ bonito and kingfish. Sorry, too busy for pics.
Little_Flatty
Good to hear you finally got out. From all the reports of late, it seems like the brown water isn't bothering the pelagics all that much.

Not super clear, but not brown either. With La Niña set to kick us in the nuts again, it looks like this weekend will once again be a weekend to work on domestic bliss! 14 hours ago, Isaac Ct said: Nice Job mate, you got a trip in and managed a nice feed. Pickles
Well done @JustJames, Bonnies’ are great fighters and good fun. Just a word of warning if your cleaning of the fish includes filleting - be aware that it is illegal to do so on your boat and fisheries may warn you the first time, but more likely to hit you with a fine😞😞
