Port Hacking Emperor Looking Fish

Gday Raiders,

Caught this in the hacking and was looking for an ID, first impressions was some sort of Emperor. Had blue bands around its eyes.

Looks like a Threadfin Emperor, any more photos.

Not unheard of in Sydney but not common.

for fish I.D. a side-on photo is best, your angle is not quite right as it does not fully show the head and side of body.

As Blackfish called, some species of Emperor.

Was it Orange in the mouth? Looks more like a Sweetlip variety to me.

Sorry guys, my dad can be a bit clumsy behind the camera. I think there may have been an orange trace around the lips and 100% certain that there was blue stripes/lines around the eyes.

I think it may be Lethrinus laticaudis.

That looks exactly like what I caught, Grass Emperor?

I don't think L laticaudis come down this far. I based my guess on the Dark Bars on the side and the dark blotch just above the Pectoral fish. They also have been recorded down in Sydney.

lots of warm water has come down from the north this summer and also the east coast lows that we've had will also stir up the fish mix a bit

.The blue lines around the eye are quite distinctive.  Lethrinus genivittatus appears more elongate and pale.
