Sussex Inlet

This is just one of a few reports to come,

First trip of the holidays and my dad, one of our friends and myself headed out into Sussex Inlet armed with some live poddies to try and catch some flatties. We started a drift along the last stretch before the entrance to the basin as we have caught many flatties here before. First drift we pulled out a small flattie, approx 30cm, and was promptly released. Next drift we hooked onto a much better fish, dead weight and the occasional headshake, feeling like a decent flattie and it was. 80cm of chucky flathead and the head seemed bigger than normal. Lines back out and on the same drift my dads friend is on again!!! This one feels much the same and is even bigger than the last one! Not as fat but measuring in at 85cm. One more drift and we pulled out a 45cm and a 49cm which we released and hooked up again on another solid flattie!! This one my dad caught and although wasn't as big still measured in at 69cm. Live poddies are definitely the go if you target flatties. All flatties where released.

Thanks mate, my dads friends mum has a house in the keys and we put the poddy trap just next to his mums jetty.

Good sized flatties there Isaac. You can guess the size when you first hook up with the head shakes.

Definitely, the 69cm one had a few headshakes at the start but it was dead weight when we first hooked it. The big ones though don't really fight until they see the boat (only from personal experience) and they go nuts.

I agree that matches my experience over the years

Thanks mate, the basin is definitely my favourite spot to go fishing.

Some crocs there Isaac. You're getting good with your big flatties!

I must get down there for a look sometime.

Thanks mate, just ask @Green Hornet for the spots at different times of the year.

Well done Isaac - 89cm is a real Croc 👍

Thanks mate, you always get pretty excited when a big flattie gets on the boat.
