lastworm
I’ve never used cheap braids, always big brands and the best I can afford. The thing with braid is that it can be an absolute nightmare if it’s poor quality, and even some of the big brands may have characteristics that don’t suit your style of fishing. Too stiff, not stiff enough, too waxy, too rough, low abrasion resistance, prone to wind knots, not knot friendly the list goes on. Not sure if that helps, but if you can find a cheap braid you can actually touch before buying that will at least give you some idea of what you’re getting. Either way it’s still a bit of a gamble
DerekD
Why bother with cheap braid? When I can get braid from a known manufacturer for $24 (Berkly X5 in 4lb for my bream rod as an example and I use others depending on which rod I am talking) which I can then fish for the next two years (assuming minimal wind knots) and then go out and find exactly the same braid easily what are a few dollars savings really worth. As @lastwormstated I can go into the shop and test the suppleness and strength in the store and see the diameter. To get cheap braid are you talking sight unseen off the internet or walking to the bargain bin? What breaking strain are you talking about? What is the budget and how much are the savings really worth? Edited April 22, 2022 by DerekD

Green Hornet
I buy top quality braid from Japan. Works out around the same price as the cheaper lines out here.
Hill373737
I reckon buy the best braid you can afford and that is suitable for your needs - along with a fishing diary, I keep a spreadsheet with details of all my reels including line brand, breaking strain and when I spooled it. I have 2 Stradic 2500s that get get used a lot and were spooled in mid 2019 with my favourite braid, Fins Evolve X8. Its not the cheapest braid but since they were spooled, I've fished close to 200 times and they would have featured heavily and I don't have any plans to respool them any time soon.
campr
I prefer FINNS braid but have used a cheep 8lb braid that comes to aldi once a year that seams ok. Ron
