CattaiBass Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I’m after a new baitcaster rod for casting light weight lures. Any suggestions welcome. I’m thinking I need something at least 6’6” and preferably in 1 to 3kg weight range. Most baitcasters seem to be in a much heavier weight range.
big Neil Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 As you say most baitcast combos are heavier than the 1-3kg you are seeking. The reason for this is that spin outfits in the lighter range cast light lures much easier and further than do baitcast outfits. I use baitcasters all the time and have an affinity for them, but they aren't ideal for really light work. My lightest baitcast outfit is a 2-4kg INNOVATOR NITRO rod, 6ft6in, 2 piece, paired with an ABU GARCIA baitcast reel. Caught lots of Bass, Bream, and Flathead with it but haven't used it for years. bn 2
Green Hornet Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Due to low demand there’s not much available in Australia I’m afraid. I bought my 1-3kg Majorcraft Volkey from a Japanese store quite some time ago. I can’t mention any store names due to site rules. Google BFS and also Japanese tackle shops, do some research to possibly find what you’re looking for. Don’t be put off from buying tackle from overseas, they’re very easy to deal with. 2

Hi mate, i have a Daiwa Blacklabel V2 baitcaster and it is 1-3kg 6'6 or 6'8 1 piece. Its an awesome rod and probably 6-7 years old now. As others have said most are heavier but you should be able to find a few 2-4kgs around the boating, camping, fishing shops. My daiwa was probably $400 - $500 back then but thats what i had to pay to get a 1-3kg rod 1
