kikila
With the reports of good sized kings coming out of Sydney harbour we decided to give the bay a rest, we planed to target squid first up the find some yakkas then try a few of the better known kingie haunts. Not being to familiar with our first attempt at getting some squid was at the kelp beds at quarantine bay where we didn’t get a touch then we moved over to middle head and had a try for squid, again no joy. Trolled around the markers in front of middle head for 2 nice tailor of 40 & 45cm. Then started sounding around for bait schools, found plenty of bait but couldn’t catch bugger all, moved over to the yellow marker at quarantine bay but there must have been 30 boats in tight around it. Deciding to give that a miss, we then trolled up & around north head without getting a hit, tried some bait fishing at north head for a few bottom uglys also tried working some sluggos around and other SP’s without result. Went back to the yellow marker where the boats had thinned a bit the 2 McGills were there as was hookem & cookem. Dropping the pick we decided to try our luck, we had good quality bought squid but none locally fresh caught and never got a touch, as we were retrieving the boat had a talk to a couple of blokes that had been out there & if you didn’t have fresh local squid you weren’t in the hunt. hatheadheaven
Bad luck about the kingies mate. We hit the harbour yesterday too, mainly south head, but got jack. Was reefed on one nice run on a sluggo but that's all. Trolled, then soaked, a freshly caught squid but it wasn't touched. Where are you putting in? If you put in at Roseville and want some squid, had some success at Yeoland Point on the way out, 2nd red marker. Toss into the deeper water and you should come up with a squid or 2. Kelp beds at any of the bays on the south side of the harbour are usually productive too. Keep at it! Launched out of little bay at manly, was thinking that next time I give Sydney a shot I may try tunks park.
AdamK
Hi Kikila better luck next time I was out as well yesterday and managed only 3 whilst another friend managed over 5 with biggest at 75cm Tunks park is an excellent ramp but too far from the action. There are too many no wash and 4knot zones so it takes ages to get to the grounds. Rose bay is always the best choice as far as proximity is concerned. Try this ramp it is much closer to all the main spots fro bait and fishing Check your PM mate AdamK
