Why walk the dog lures walk the dog, and other luremaking things

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Thought I'd share a few videos that has been propelling my interest in lure making.

First off, anything by The Engineered Angler is absolute gold. This guy (Franco) is a professional engineer and brings this expertise into play when designing his lures. One great example is in his explanation of why walk-the-dog lures behave in this manner (centre of drag ahead of centre of mass):

For a simple getting started project, you can look at his popscicle stick lure:

Who needs an excuse to eat more paddle pops?! Funnily enough I haven't got round to making this yet, but that hasn't stopped me from eating ice blocks :D

There is also Haru834 who produces balsa and cypress baits and provides templates for the lures:

Finally, anything by the legendary Greg 'Doclures' Vinall is also gold. Apart from his youtube channel you can also find many (free) templates and e-books on his make wooden lures website.

This stickbait has caught me a few fish already, including my first topwater flatty.

Enjoy!
