faker
My rod has a 65g lure weight and 80g jig weight. I do have one with 42g lure weight. I am wondering what weights would be best to use off the rocks in terms of 5 inch and 7 inch jerkshad and 9 inch sluggo. Dunno about you guys but going above 1 once seems a bit dodgy as it would just drop like a rock. Apart from just winding it in and walk the dog sub surface Anyone have experience on plastics off rocks? I am too used to jigs and hard bodies Edited May 30 by faker
Ganguddy Goodoo
I think big SPs like that have a fair bit of buoyancy so 1 will not sink that quickly. Maybe just experiment with a few different sizes to get a feel for it. If the 65g/42g is the maximum cast weight a 1 ounce should still go at least some sort of distance . As to how you fish it I generally let em sink and roll it over structure, mixing up retrieve speeds to see what is working . You could hop it back but I find I end up littering rather than fishing. I'm a novice rock fisho so others should be to provide more comprehensive advice.
slothparade
I use 1/2, 7/8 and 1oz off the beach, from what I've researched it's pretty much the same when throwing big paddle tails off the rocks. As for sluggos, I assume you want them in the middle to lower column so id be looking at 1/2 Oz but leaving it open to having more weight. I was researching for 7-9" soft plastics but 1/2 Oz jigheads work on 5" to. I get the Berkely nitro ones as the hook is a lot longer therefore the hook is around the middle of the paddle tail instead of 1/3.
