Aussie_fisher
Lost more fish while trying to lift them than I’d like to say. Looking for a good telescopic landing net around 2 m would be ideal. Anyone have any recommendations for a relatively cheap one? Thanks
Peter K
Depends, do you want a simple fabric mesh net, or a silicon 'enviromental safety' type net. Option two is typically double the price, definitely better for fish welfare, and less tangles for the angler to deal with. I know the online Chinese stores, eg. ali and temu do have cheap silicon ones although I don't think they would go more than 1m. Do you really need a 2m net? For bream under 35cm and flathead under 45cm, I rarely have an issue with just skull dragging them right out of the water. Some fish I'll kneel down and pick up, I rarely find myself using a net unless it is right by my side. I reckon I've lost more fish trying to net it than trying to haul it straight out of the water. Cheers, Peter
Aussie_fisher
I’d probably prefer silicon the cheap nets tangle around the fish and are a nuisance but depends how expensive it is. Usually I always do that and works fine but certain spots I fish are very high up and since I fish light I’ve lost some good sized fish
slothparade
Wrap your hand a couple times around the leader and give it a quick pull and they usually come up without breaking the leader.

big Neil
I have a telescopic landing net that I got whilst working. It extends to just about 2m and has silicon mesh. I have had it for 15 years and it is still as good as new. It cost me about $100 then but definitely worth having. I use lures with trebles and never have issues with the hooks being tangled up in the net. bn
