Warm weather brings nice fish

Recommended Posts

Hi raiders,

Went for a quick flick in a bay near gladesville today. I decided to revisit my soft plastics in case I'm getting rusty. The water is pretty low where I fish so I put a heavy sinker and texas rigged a grub style plastic to achieve a bit better casting distance. However it still fell a bit short and no bites after scanning where I could reach. Switched to my trustworthy 7g micro jigs and reached prob 5m further. Interestingly, it changed things dramatically - I landed three fish within the next 20mins.

The whiting put up some good fight so did the flathead. Decent fight on pe0.4 + 6lb (yes I further lowered my line ratings).

55cm flathead is actually my PB. Nothing to write home about but pretty happy with this big girl anyway. She gulped the whole lure a bit deep but luckily managed to get it out and release her back safe and sound. The leader broke while I tried to pull it out - lucky me landed this fish.

Tight lines,

Nice work mate. That spot is becoming a fave of yours isn’t it?😎

Actually it has pretty limited access to the water compared to Morrison bay unless bush bashing. I generally flip a coin to decide between this two!

A nice flattie, whiting, and a silver biddie. Certainly paid off doing the lure changed.

thanks @Yowie. Yeah sometimes the fish could just be 50cm away or in the mood for sth else I guess!

It's around noon my usual fishing time. Temperature is def higher than we would expect for August

You did very well Henry. You recognised a problem and solved it, providing you with 3 good fish. That's what is good about fishing, there are heaps of "other things to try" if things aren't working.

Nice.

How to you fish with the microjigs? Is it similar to a metal vibe?

@seasponge I fish it using one-pitch jerk - basically jerk your rod once and meanwhile reel in one or a half rotation depending on your reel speed/rod length. Then let the jig tension fall to the bottom and repeat. This works well in shallow-ish water. You can do multiple jerk&reel and let it fall too when the water is deep and you want to cover more water columns. Try to mix things up sometimes could trick the fish to bite. I know some people fish metal vib like this too but personally I find what @DerekD taught me to teabag the vib and reel in is relaxing and effective.
