the6thseat
hi all, set off on saturday from northbridge at around 7 am. went straight round to balmoral and caught a bunch of trevally, bream, baby snapper and more. ended up keeping 4 slimy mackerel and a trevally. those little trevally are great fun as they have a lot of fight. we went round to a spot in the harbour around 9:30 and set some larger rods with live slimies and smaller rods with whole pilchards (we used snell rigs). today was the first time i got to use my new combo. it’s a 7ft daiwa legalis 5-9kg rod with a shimano nexave 3000 size reel, and i was running 20lb line with 30lb leader on it. around 11 am we got a bite on the new rod. at first we thought it was a snag, but as i begun reeling (rod was bent all the way around) we realised we had a fish on. as we pulled it up, my friend caught a glimpse of it and said he thought it was a big flatty or shovelnose. it went for a run and for a period of time we actually had to pull the line in by hand for fear of breaking the rod. anyway, we got this big fish in the boat (bending the metal landing net in the process) and measured it. 114 cm! highlight of the day and a great way to christen the new rod. cm-chat-media-video-1:f9a258d8-bc54-57da-9e46-08e6e17636a5:310:0:0.movIMG_0289.mov Edited August 26 by the6thseat typos
JonD
They can be surprisingly good fun but also a pest at times, don't take it for granted when you hook something that fights similar thinking its another port Jackson as it could be a jew.

Fried Rice
Bit of fun but you will probably learn to hate them.
