Nepot
Hi raiders, I am wanting to catch my first kingfish. I have heard that blues point is a really good spot to try for kings. Does anyone have any recommendations for land based spot in Sydney?
Aussie_fisher
I’m yet to catch a king but can tell you based on what I’ve heard. They move around so if it’s a bad day they might not pass blues point reserve at all. And if it’s a good day, they’re hungry, and they pass blues point reserve you have a good chance. This basically applies to most spots around the harbour. But if they do come along you can maximise your chance with having good bait such as fresh squid and early morning is always good

lhan
It's just a place where school kingies will pass when entering the harbour. It's a very accessible spot with one of the deepest water in Sydney Harbour but for king it's always a hit and miss. If you do shore jigging, it's a decent spot to fish using your heavier king gear without worry about water being shallow like in the upper estuary. If you do bait, lavender bay nearby or harbour wharves are better choices imo.
Aussie_fisher
Ye I agree if doing bait go to one of the wharves you’ll probably have a better chance. It’s just they can get very crowded so plan it accordingly. You’ve also got a much better chance in summer as the rat schools enter tha harbour right now it would be more difficult

Aussie_fisher
You could also go unweighted or use a float

Lozzz
Its a nice deep spot for shore jigging and to meet other jiggers, kings can be hit an miss though as its a spot where they just pass through. Early morning is best and 40g jigs or 60g if the tide is running fast.
