The reason why I fish…

Gday Raiders, ive been chasing out wide for the last 3 weeks, decided to stay in close this week and go for a feed.

Plenty of yakkas and slimies at the local bait grounds - decided to toss down a livie as I was gathering bait. No takers, so hit up a local reef. Again tossed out a livie while I put down a paternoster squid jig.

a 25cm hood followed by a 20cm shortly after

Had another large squid grab my livie all the way up - I tossed a jig next to it, but it was only interested in the livie and swam back down.

Trolled a livie along the cliffs for nothing, then dropped down some bait - a couple of small red rock cod only.

Hit up the flatty drift - but drift went slack - no movement for an hour, then the drift changed direction twice over the next hour. Wasn’t the best drifting conditions, but managed a few blue spot and tigers.

Finished the day with a couple of crabs. Plenty of females with eggs moving about - released 5.

Very nice bag there Chris.

The swimmers are early for this time of year, though 2 of the males are worth it.

Flatties about, mixture of tigers and blue spots, the 2 squid to top it off. When a squid is feeding on bait, such as a yakka, the jig is a waste of time dropping it near his head. 😂 Will not be interested.

How did you catch the crabs? In a crab pot? Or they took the bait on lines?

I used pots - dropped in the morning and picked up on the way back in. Only a small area near the entrance that’s permissible.

Love this relaxed type of fishing

Unfortunately for me I’ve had some health issues , my son got married and work

I haven’t taken the boat out for 5 months,

surely my luck has to turn around

Yep, sold it in a week back in July….didn’t expect to sell so fast but happy with the result. My new yak should arrive in the next fortnight then it’s getting wet without delay 🐟
