noelm
Had the kids and grand kids over for a sleepover, started off fishing over the back fence, terrorising the Toads and small Bream, a couple of legal Whiting hit the shore as well, a quick game of soccer, a swing in the Hammock, a fire and a BBQ dinner, life’s good when we all get together, a few missing, my daughter and her 17 year old, but the others made a good day of it, a couple of pictures of the kids fishing, after a swim in the freezing water….. mrsswordfisherman
Looks like you have settled into the new house nicely Noel. Great day for it, 29 degrees here today.
noelm
Yep, all getting sorted, it was a great day, the strong winds were only breezy and dropped off to nothing just before dark. Some went for a swim, but said it was ice cold, others just fished and fooled around, ate food, drank our beer/wine, the little kids had to have Marshmallow's over the fire, then squish them in between biscuits. BBQ was great, just sausages and fresh rolls, so simple, nice warm night and the fire just topped it off. They are all in bed now, I have to cook breakfast for them all in the morning, eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns and sausages, they have all put their orders in…… Edited August 30 by noelm

noelm
Yep, it’s good, of course Australia Day it’s packed from daylight……and some nice warm weekends in the summer it gets busy, but, that doesn’t worry me, they all have to pack up and go home, I live there! Plus I have a big driveway so any visitors don’t have to worry about street parking. And….I still have easy access to fly fishing, pumping Nippers, Whiting and so on (when you know what you’re doing) good Mud Crabs in there too. Just a minute walk to the beach and a couple of my best rock spots and Lobster diving.

Yeah it is, love having them around, even though I call them freeloaders and whinge and whine about how much food my wife supplies, but it’s probably a once a month set thing, with a couple of spontaneous visits thrown in. Nah, I can assure you, if I didn’t buy decades ago I couldn’t afford to live there now. Not planned, just dumb luck buying the family home way back. I try to keep over the back fence nice too, the local Council don’t care much, they just turn up with a big tractor type mower and drive over everything. noelm
The two smallest grandkids are in bed with my wife, their mum and dad are having coffee (in bed that I made for them) while I prepare breakfast for them all. The kids want breakfast in “nanny and papas” bed…… edit……breakfast done, 14 eggs, 1kg Bacon, lots of Hash Browns and Sausages, piles of toast, lucky my wife came to help, us men are not so good at multitasking when it comes to cooking/food. She did the scrambled eggs (which she cooks the best ever made) and the fried eggs, I did the Bacon, Sausages and tomato on the BBQ. My son had a production line of coffee going…..fishing rods are ready for action again. Edited August 30 by noelm 2
Yowie
Show-off. 😂 A great location, everything you need right there with you. What river/creek is it again?

I sure hope so, we have grandkids from 21 down to 7 so lots of “baby sitter” cousins and brothers and sisters to play/fight with. Best guess (and my hope) is when we either pass, or move into some kind of “home” they flatten the house and build a nice unit each (my son and daughter) and live the same way we have for so long, I have lived here since I was born, when there was no electricity or water here, and just a dirt track from the “main road”

We're better at retrospectively poor decisions. We went from Sydney down the coast and managed to find a place 80m off the sand. Wake in the morning; open the curtains; make a decision on the spot whether to go straight out fishing. Deserted beaches, clean water loaded with good size fish and no traffic to deal with coming home. Not quite the dream ('drag the boat onto the lawn') but as near as I made it. Coming back near the big smoke to be near grandkids was hard. The property boom made it painful. The costs and fees, selling any buying added to the pain. So many people misinterpret ‘independence’ as having nothing to do with your family after you grow up. That’s sad. I get it, not all families can do it, people need to move away to pursue career opportunities etc, but it’s also nice if you can stick together, help each other out and enjoy each other’s company.

Yep, that just about sums it up, both my kids are “independent” and live about 15 minutes away, but we are a strong close family, it’s not perfect, things happen, we argue about “stuff” but, we are all there for each other it something unforeseen hits us.
noelm
Just another side note, my son and the twins came over for Father’s Day and they wanted to go “Nippering” to get some bait for fishing tonight. All kids love gathering bait, especially Nippers and Pippis, Beach Worms great fun playing on the sand, but worming is “boring”

Asking for a friend that wants free brekkie in bed. 1
