Headed out early this morning, near Lilli Pilli. A lot of pickers/little reddies about. No yakkas but more little reddies taking the yakka baits.

A couple of hits on a handline, squid strip the bait, gave the line a jerk but no hook up, dropped the line then the line took off a few seconds later. Hooked the jewie and it kept running, eventually coming up into the net. Measured at 78cm. With only the pickers biting, I kept it for a feed.

Plenty of small reddies hooking up, then 2 legal ones later, both on salted fish strips. 33 and 35cm. Also pulled up a red gurnard at 38cm but released it.

Fish caught on the last of the run out tide. I was going to pump some nippers and fish the run up tide, but decided I had enough for a few feeds, so headed home.

I took the jewie skeleton to a tackle shop on Taren Point Road. They freeze the skeletons there and hand them to Fisheries for research.

Very nice jew Dave! A change from flatty fillets and must have pulled on the handline, how are the fingers? I get my new kayak tomorrow and can't wait to get out there!

Very nice feed there Yowie, good haul again. Good to see a nice Jew caught, good signs for trips to come hopefully.

Thanks Rob. It certainly took off. Fingers are good, just have to let the line run when the fingers heat up. 🤣

Will be good to collect a new kayak.

Thank you. I was cleaning the jew at the ramp, another fisho asked if I used gloves for hand line fishing. NO. 

I have been handline fishing since about 5, so that is ?? years ago. 😂 Many of the old fishos  on here used handlines in their young days.

Good size jewie Dave! With all those squid around that @Restyle ‘s been catching it’s not surprising they’re about. Decent reddies for inside too.

I handed in a snapper frame in there too, but took over a year to get a reply from fisheries. Sent me a certificate a few months back.

Thanks Chris, as soon as I hooked up, I knew it would be worth keeping.

I have dropped in 2 snapper frames this year, and now the jewie. Have not heard anything yet, so just keep waiting.

If you are reading this William, drop over a live squid next time you are pulling them up.
