sashkello
Hello to trout fishers, if there are any! I'm going to Lithgow next weekend to try exploring some trout fishing spots along Fish River and Cox River (would devote 1 day to each I reckon). Anyone did open the season already? How does it look? My plan for Fish river is to try starting around Hassall Park and Flat Rock, and walk around if accessible (never been there, so not sure if it is?) Any other spots anyone knows I can try out on my way? For Cox river, I think I'll drive down from McKanes Falls Road to fish under the bridge there, then at the intersection with River Lett and down to Duddawarra Bridge. Any other walkable areas where I won't have to bother the farmers? I'm not looking for huge fish, but I'd love to not just have fun but to also bring a couple of 30-40cm fish home, as I love smoking them. If there's any extra advice, would be glad to hear! XD351
Yes the season opened on the 5th October. I went over the Coxs last weekend, bit of flow - nothing that got me excited though . There was a little bit of water coming out of Chifley dam , didn’t look below Oberon but a few guys I talked to said they caught a couple of small trout in the dam . the tackle shop in Lithgow should be able to give you more up to date info (02) 6352 1276 oh yeah - watch out for the snakes out there !

Google reviews for most of the mentioned places seem to be for rating snakes and not rivers ha-ha
R E G I C Y C L E
I fished the Duckmaloi on Saturday and Oberon Dam on Monday. 2 hookups but no fish landed on the Duckmaloi, despite fishing some amazing water. Unusual I know no one had fished this spot before me this season due to the difficulty of access, and towards the end of last season i had some good sessions there. If you're prepared to hike a few kms upstream of McKanes you might do alright. It is one of the more highly pressured access points on the Coxs. Judging by the amount of campers at Glenroy on the weekend, the River Lett junction will have been hammered. Duddawarra might be worth a try, and there is another access point downstream on Cullenbong Rd. There are numerous access points to the Fish River around Flat Rock, upstream and downstream. Fish usually sees less pressure than Coxs so you may have more luck there. Whether you catch fish or not you'll enjoy the scenery and wildlife. 1

Pity Duckmaloi didn't work out... Did you get anything at Oberon?
R E G I C Y C L E
Sorry that was supposed to be part of my response... Oberon had 50kmh winds on Monday so I pulled the pin after only an hour on the water. It can get pretty gnarly up there for a lake, and I had waves coming over the front of the kayak.
sashkello
Wow, that sounds dangerous! Biggest trout I caught was at Oberon, but I'm not going that way this time... Wanted to explore rivers for a change.
