Hi raiders,

I had a short family visit staycation back to China recently. Even my father and I are now keen fishermen, we didn't plan to have a session due to falling temperature up north and other planning.  However I managed to squeeze a session while having lunch near a local dam.

I was using a light baitcaster rod (I bought it there wanting to try BFS in Sydney) with a 2500 miravel (borrowed one of my father's ISO fishing reel). Not ideal but it works alright.

To my knowledge where I fish has three lure fishing targets generally - sharpbelly, topmouth culter, and northern snakehead. I started with a paddle tail on 5g jighead wishing for the bigger latter two but no luck. However I did spot some big splash and school fish lurk around weed patches. All the three fish are known to feed on the top so time to switch to a tiny 3g spoon to target the upper column. Even the top strikes continued while I was there, I couldn't get some interests for my lure... Anyway I started to search near weed patches for the aggressive little sharpbelly. It took a while to convert all the follows to a solid hook up - and my first freshwater lure catch in China also I think the first freshwater lure catch in my life! I was really hoping I have my light topwater outfit with me as I can see a big potential of topwater fun up here.

Pretty happy that I at least caught something, I called it a day. Nothing to write home about but it's an interesting experience to get the first fish on lure after so many years at where I grow up.

Tight lines,

Henry

How exciting to go back to China and fish with your Father. Great to actually catch something as well...good on you. You are a very keen angler Henry, and I think that you will do very well this Summer. I noticed that you have a rather unusual picture next to your name. I hope you are enjoying using it.

Cheers, bn

Thanks @XD351. Freshwater fishing is dominant in China I'm still very new to it. There're a lot of videos online fishing in China - it's a big country with many many different territories and species, always fun to watch!

Good to hear you got out for a session Henry.

It's always good to fish unfamiliar water. Though you grew up there, I bet you see the water through a very different lens now!

Thanks Mike, it surely is different now. Any water now is topwater playground for me 🤣
