big Neil Posted November 1 Posted November 1 (edited) Today was the first day in over a week that I have felt ok. A real nasty flu has left me floored and unable to do much apart from sleep and cough my guts up. So this morning I felt strong enough to go fishing, first time since Cod closing on Sept 1st. Today is Nov 1st. A beautiful day to head down to the Sturt Canal for some Carp fishing. I had worms and bread for bait and chucked the shrimp net in for good measure. The two rods were a single paternoster rig with worms and a double paternoster rig with worms and bread. Within a few minutes the bites started and I had loads of bites for the 2 hrs I was there. I caught 7 Carp up to a really heavy fish of about 70cms long and about 50 cms girth. Another first was 2 Carp at once on the double paternoster rig. I also caught 3 Silver Perch on worms...another first being the first time I have ever caught a Silver Perch in that part of the system. The Perch were all about 40cms and very healthy looking. They went back unharmed. I packed up with the fish still biting. Oddly enough there were no shrimps or yabbies in the net either. Here are a few photos. 2 Carp at once... A nice Silver Perch... Another of the Silver Perch... This was the biggest Carp for the session... I read somewhere that a 4kg Carp can produce about 1 million eggs, so it's always pleasing to get rid of some big breeders. bn Edited November 1 by big Neil more info. 11

XD351 Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Eewww that sounds nasty ! No better medicine than a fishing trip ! awesome to see the silvers are still hanging in there against the swamp salmon ! Any day that a big carp comes out of the waterways is a good one ! Thanks for the great report BN! Sounds like you’re on the road to recovery- take it easy mate ! 1
Hoods Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Good on ya Neil. Back into the swing of things!! Hope you continue to improve. There have been some nasties about this year. Impressed to see Silvers in the canal system. Love how you don't mention the Carp's future. Heading to Eucumbene in the morning. Talk soon. 1
