Little_Flatty Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Glad to hear you survived the ordeal. Hope you recover ok from your injuries. Hopefully you only experience this once. 1
noelm Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Happy you’re OK, but not too sure I understand what you mean by the tide “rising off Whale Beach”

savit Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Yesterday's BOM(Bureau Of cryptoMining) forecast for swell was wrong. The swell actuals near Sydney were 1.6-1.7m in the early morning. I had to miss one spot, and left the other spot after 1 cast and getting 'refreshed'. 2

I haven't seen you for ages. It's good to see that you are still getting out for an occasional fish. Cheers, bn 1
big Neil Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Good to see that you are ok after your rock fishing mishap Faker. Never underestimate the danger when rock fishing. Probably best you wear a PFD and go with somebody else. Keep safe. bn 1
Burger Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Firstly, I’m glad you’re ok! I never assume the forecast wave height is what I will encounter and am constantly on the watch for swell and tide changes. As you found today, there is no room for complacency on the rocks. 1

PaddyT Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Yeah ok-can be tricky there in any swell over about 1.5 on ANY high tide-i've been there an hour after someone got killed there back in the 80's, there is a "gully" just behind the main rock where you can shelter from a big swell in a complete SHTF situation (yep ive dived in there). Unfortunately that headland has become more dangerous over the last few years because people stick rods into "holders" which means moving around is much harder. Reality is 6-7 people can spin that platform but only 2-3 max can fish it in a stationary fashion. When it was at its best everyone would stand on the tip , cast and then move to the left so the next bloke could cast, by the time you finished your retrieve you moved to the front again. This also meant there was lots of eyes on the water. Glad to hear you're ok , learn from the experience. 1
Steve0 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Better bruised than broken. It's good you shared the experience, so others may learn. It's not a location I've fished. Presumably the swell arrives across deep water and waves build very quickly.

Cheers, bn All good BN. Still fishing regularly but catch fish occasionally 😆. But I am not flexible with time as I used to be. Normally just target pelagics with lures on early mornings off rocks - if no fish then at least some exercising, occasionally with cold water therapy. Any questions - just PM me. 1
Aussie_fisher Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Glad you’re alright. Could have ended very differently
