Jo5hC Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Headed out again with @expositer this morning and the target species was flathead, as I haven't got one on lures in a while. Didn't get nippers from church point this time, as the tides weren't right. The forecast was wrong with the winds, so the flats were glass for a bit. Started off with a topwater at the caravan park but got no interest, so switched to a daiwa 3.2 inch minnow in baby bass 1/6th 2/0 jighead. There was still a stack of baitfish like last time and also saw many flathead lies when walking out, biggest one probably around 60-70cm, so looked promising. After about 30mins, I had the distinctive thud on the line and when I struck, the fish took off for a few seconds before settling down. Coming in, it was the target species, and definitely legal just by eye gauge so we decided to keep it. Later turned out to be 45cm. The flathead was caught casting past the drop off on the flats not too deep water. After a while of no bites, decided to try again at pumping nippers here as I saw hundreds of very fresh looking holes. To my surprise, I actually managed to get some this time. Started off very small, but were able to get a few big ones. Pumped only about 10-15 as we had other bait to use. Moved to Jamieson park as the flats had gotten a bit busier and I had fished it thoroughly with the sp. Jamieson was very weedy, and soft plastics weren't going to work, so just used bait instead. Also saw some squirt worm holes and pumped a few decent size worms to try as bait too. The worms and nippers got a few undersize bream until the rod buckled over and the drag was screaming. After a short tussle, in came probably a new PB bream (don't really remember my exact PB) on the nippers which measured 31.5cm which also came home for a feed. We had to get home early so decided to call it a day after only getting small bream for the next hr or so. Overall quite happy with the day as managed to get my target species ticked off, even though it was only one flatty. I feel like I am starting to get the hang of this fishing thing... at least in Narrabeen, with the last two sessions producing a feed and also success on lures. Next time I will probably explore more of the lagoon, as I feel I've only scratched the surface. 17
Yesplz Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Looks like a really fun trip! Congrats on the PB bream and the nice flathead. I'm considering trying out Narrabeen Lagoon myself, however I'll probably pass if that area gets alot of foot traffic as I really despise fishing with a lot of people around. If you don't mind me asking how busy is the area around the caravan park during weekdays?

I've never fished during weekdays as I have school, but even on the weekends not the whole set of flats is packed and there is usually enough space to still fish. 1
Yowie Posted November 4 Posted November 4 A couple of nice fish for you. It is a fishy looking sand bank behind you. The fish will feed along the drop off during low tide, swimming over it on high tide, or during the night. 1
