Aussie_fisher Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Just saw the news report that a 11 year old boy was swept out into the sea at the entrance. He was fishing with his father and they tried to wade the channel right at the mouth - and a strong current took him right out to sea and they aren’t able to find him. I fish that area very frequently as I’m sure many people here do as well. The current can be extremely fast there but I would’ve still never expected something like this to take place there out of all places. however ig this is a reminder that even in places you may consider safe things like this can happen so you shouldn’t let your guard down. Better be very safe rather than very sorry. Hopefully the boy is alright but it’s not looking good and I think they called off the search 4
noelm Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Yep, I saw that too, very sad for the family, these things happen quite fast, even though it looks OK, once it all goes wrong, that minute of panic is long enough for for the situation to get way out of control. Take care around the water this summer, whether it’s the beach, rocks, river or a dam. Just last year I was fishing a deep gutter on the beach, and a family with little kids thought it would be a nice place to swim because there was no waves, the current/rip was quite strong, no one else on the beach but me, neither father or mother could swim very well, I suggested they move up the beach a bit to a shallow sand bank. I think they thought I was telling them to buzz off, the father started to get a bit “testy” so they just packed up and left. 2
