Hi All!

Recently I've purchased a 30-size Pflueger President reel as it has been recommended to me and reviews seemed good for such a cheap reel. However, a problem arouse when I spooled it. The line was obviously very much bunched up at the back end of the reel, extremely so. It was about 3mm below the front lip and had reached the max capacity at the back of the reel. I read up on this and apparently the fix is to replace a washer with a thinner one. However, the reel didn't come with an extra washer, so I tried filing it to make it thinner. After halving its thickness I respooled the line, but didn't notice any difference. Lastly, I simply removed the washer completely to see what will happen. Even though there is marginal improvement, the line still sits at a noticeable angle, almost 2mm below the lip at the front with back flush to the max. I tried using it this way, but the line lays unevenly and causes friction when casting.

Anyone had this issue with this reel? Any ideas what I can do to fix it?

Hi @sashkello,

For 'back end of the reel', if you mean the line is more stacked towards the bottom (cone shaped or even worse line not reaching top end I guess in your case), it indicates that the spool sits higher on the main shaft than it should be. In this case washer should be removed which you did right. Also make sure when you spool, tighten the drag to make sure the spool sits tightly where it should be. However your case seems really extreme which might be a quality control issue. You should be able to ask the seller for a swap I guess

That's what I'm thinking... it's extremely lopsided. I've seen it before, but it was always mild and easily fixable. Just thought maybe I did something wrong, but yeah maybe the reel is simply defective.
