Gday Raiders!

Conditions looked the goods on Friday so planned a trip out with a mate on our Jetski’s. Ramp was really busy even though we arrived before first light. We hit up the bait grounds and loaded up on yakkas. Some were tiny 10-12cm and others around 25cm.
Out wide my mate hooks up first, then it’s all on for the next few hours. I put on the largest baits I have and start to slow troll specifically looking for larger fish.

Fish went

1.15m released (main photo and vid)

1.10m

1m

85cm

Some quality Dollies there Larkin. Another of the species on my bucket list. Beautiful looking fish and excellent on the plate, although I have only eaten it a few times. I laughed when I saw the 2nd photo. The Dollie looks to be "pouting"... hardly surprising having just been caught.

Cheers, bn

Great report and photos there Larkin, now there’s a coincidence they turned up here on Friday as well and a mate got a few as well.

His method was a bit more traditional, he caught them out of a boat.

Thanks Neil, good fighters!
Prepared some tonight in a simple panko crumb paired with a coldie. 🍺

Been waiting for some dolly reports! They are one of the most stunning fish in the ocean, good on the plate and a sustainable take as well.

They’ve been around for the last 4 weeks - sitting on the fish trap buoys off Sydney. With the fads being deployed a week or two ago they’re everywhere.

Thanks Blackfish! Haha news is out. The charter boys have been getting them for the last 4 weeks on the traps - some right in close only a few k’s out.

Good work there Chris, a great bag of dollies of good sizes. Paid off for you.

The ramp getting busy now? Don't want to get there even earlier than I do.

Great work on some quality dollies. The secret is definitely out. We did well yesterday but so did the other 20 boats! The southerly was NOT fun.

Great post Chris, you always get your target species!

Haha thanks Rob!

Not always, but I usually have a back up plan that’ll save the day. This day they were on out there.

Thanks Dave!
my mate picked up 4 too, between 85-95cm.

Yeah it’s starting to get busy, especially on nice days after a week of bad weather. I know you’re an early bird, so won’t have any issues finding a spot.

Haha, yeah it came up much earlier than expected. A mate of mine was out there, but knew to head in early - back at the ramp by 9am. Got 3 around 70-85

yeah most heard they were on. On Friday the banter was quiet on the radio. Lol.
Good on you for getting onto a few 👍

I always say you only get out what you put in & you certainly put in the hard yards so congrats 👍

With fishing there are no guarantees but hey 9 times out of 10 its better to be out there doing it than sitting at home wishing you were out there!

My last fishing outing after having about a 4 month break gave me a donut, the weather was not what BOM & Seabreeze predicted but thats why they say its just a guide right, it blew a gale & chopped up for most of the 4 hours I put up with it before calling it quits.

BUT I still hade fun & enjoyed it.

I have heard Mahi Mahi sashimi & ceviche is awesome but unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to make it for myself......................one day

Thanks Isaac!

it didn’t hang around long - I managed one feed.
I had the last vac bag saved in the freezer and it got snatched by the wife’s friend.

Thank you Sharknado!

Being out there is the part I enjoy most - exploring and fishing all the different areas.

At least you got a chance to get out there - Pitty about the weather, the BOM’s reports have been really bad lately - I find some of the wind prediction sites much more accurate.

No sashimi this time, ended up just doing a panko crumb coating.

Good luck on your next trip!
