Basil D Posted November 9 Posted November 9 headed out early gathered some bait and took off the Maroubra Area looking for trag. very early look so promising with so much bait on the sounder but no takers all morning . did eventually catch one trag and some mowies for the Neighbours :P, The morning did me no favours except and beautiful day on the water around midday seeing some posts from face book and then a message from a good friend from fishraider I decided to give the fads a quick crack headed straight and threw some yakkas around with no takers, gave up and come back in close for a feed of flatties (Plan B😄) Was amazed when I found This thing in the flatheads stomach , Looks like a Mantis shrip? come in to yarra bay and had a swim before heading home 20
noelm Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Flathead will eat just about anything, a Mantis Shrimp is just another big Prawn to a Flathead.
XD351 Posted November 10 Posted November 10 That’s the second mantis shrimp I have seen inside of a flathead this week , the other was caught in the parramatta river .

Larkin Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Plan B came good! 👍 Where’d you pick up a kebab out there lol The Dollie’s were out there early - others arrived scattering the fish by mid morning.

Got my Kebab while filling up fuel at 7/11 In Rockdale, phoned the shop across the rd and they had it ready in 2 minutes 🤣 I ate half after I got my Livie's and was heading towards Maroubra 2
jenno64 Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Nice work Basil! I heard of a guy that used to pump mantis shrimp when hunting nippers and scored some big flathead on them.
Yowie Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Some fish for the plate Basil, so not a waste of time even though a bit quiet in places. I have found a couple of mantis shrimps inside jewies caught in Port Hacking. One was so fresh, I washed it, kept it cool in the esky, took it home and cooked it. 🤣 It tasted like a prawn, very nice. 1

big Neil Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I'm not sure about the order of your pictures Basil. Started off alright with the report, and the catch, but quickly went downhill from there with the Flathead guts, then you scoffing a kebab. To end it all you rub salt in the wound by going for a bloody swim. How much can a Koala bear? Serious face now Basil. You always end up with a result whether it's plan B or plan Z. Shows that you know what you're doing. Thanx for the report, some quality eating coming up. bn 1 1
