faker Posted November 13 Posted November 13 (edited) I seem to be getting into alot of misfortune these days Got to Clifton rocks at 6 caught 2 sambo and one bonito but released one sambo. About a hour apart for each shore jigging But as i was about to clean bonito and salmon i tripped and dropped bonito into water. To make matters worst the 2nd guide to my rod flew off as braid wrapped around it during cast. I only have photo.of one of sambo today. Can someone suggest me places to replace guides? noelm Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Can’t see photos, but….any decent tackle shop will do rod repairs, and I mean a real shop, not a chain/department store!
TheFishyFisherman Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Hope u get ur rod fixed soon. Good job on catching the bonito and salmon
bookwa Posted November 13 Posted November 13 I always kept a dental floss dispenser in my gear. Anything loose is easy to bind up until you’re able to get a proper repair. Some of my temporary fixes lasted ten years! In the marlin season used to fish lizard island and always had a reel of morticians waxed thread in my gear—- used every day on the bait rigs and it was strong enough to bind a 130lb reel securely to a cracked reel seat. It’s the fishos version of the farmers no 8 fencing wire!! 2
Larkin Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Did you lose the guide? I’ve had the second guide come out on a couple of my rods - I just put some of the green label fishing glue (stuff they use on lures) and pushed the guide back in - and both have been fine since. A tackle shop would do a better job though.
Little_Flatty Posted November 13 Posted November 13 @faker try uploading your photos again. Issue appears to have been resolved. 1
Steve0 Posted November 14 Posted November 14 Looks like a reasonable Salmon, but it is hard to tell without something for reference. When I knew something doesn't threaten a PB, I put my size 9 in the photo. That one doesn't look like it's been stuffing itself silly on baitfish. When they do, they get a big belly. I'm the same as @noelm with guide repairs. An old-style tackle shop will do it relatively cheap. They want your business. Find a good one and stick with them. Without recommending any, <retailer removed>, Mona Vale or <retailer removed> may offer service.

Can always just fish plastics

Can always just fish plastics You can't beat a local shop that does bits and pieces for you. I used to get my reels fully serviced every six months at my local in Eden. While quite capable, $10 per service was impossible to resist. He also had a huge cache of old reel parts and if something broke could usually find a part to substitute. One advantage of not resisting tackle sales is gear sitting idle in the shed. When whatever you are using breaks, there's always another form of fishing. Edited November 14 by Steve0

I want to move my pe 2 set up from spheros to the stradic which frees up my spheros to use pe 2.5 for distance casting and my freams 6000 do not have to go between the 2 rods
